Up early, breakfasted, booted, packed and off. Why the rush? this is our last but one day left to go for a walk and that we have the “Terrace all to our selves!”, I scream with open arms, just as a dog wanders around a tree followed by it’s owner who gives me a quizzical look.

Choose a bench and watch “Natures” free show, any time, every day. To our left the red,  yellow and the green of the leaves of the trees in Deer Bolt Wood and brown of the bracken on the slopes of Silver Howe. Then Easedale, with the Sun breaking through the clouds

shining down on the side of Helm Crag with Steel Fell behind. Cars are driving up and down Dunmail Raise. To the right rises the bulk of Seat Sandal. Grisedale Hause separating Helvellyn from Fairfield. Behind the Village of Grasmere is

Great Rigg and Heron Pike. Again our eyes are drawn to the red and brown yellow and greens of the leaves of Penny Rock Wood. We take the road to Skelwith Bridge, passing Loughrigg Tarn, momentarily stopping to watch some sheep.

We progress rather faster as we reach the new footpath from the Chesters by the river, shop and cafe, to Elterwater. A lot of people have chosen the same route, car park to car park care of the National Trust.

Elterwater is quiet as we arrive and sit by the tree to eat lunch. Our route back is as yesterday taking the steep road to High Close and Red Bank. We end the day with another crossing of “The Terrace”, choosing a bench again for a coffee and a view.
